Brilliant Club

On January 11th a group of Year 9 and 10 pupils accompanied by Mrs Davies, Ms Lunney and Mrs Dowling visited the University of Manchester for the launch of the Scholars Programme run by an organisation called The Brilliant Club. The Scholars Programme is aimed at our most highly achieving students. The Brilliant Club exists to encourage pupils to aim higher and to see the opportunities that studying at a highly selective university will offer them. A PhD tutor has come into school and delivered sessions to our pupils based around his field of expertise and pupils have then produced an assignment of 1500 words. The work produced has been very impressive and the tutor has commented very positively on the standard achieved. Pupils work is then marked using University criteria and pupils are awarded their class of degree in a final graduation ceremony at the University of Lancaster.

As a school we have been really pleased with the academic rigour of the programme and the motivation that it has inspired in our pupils that we have now enrolled a second cohort, this time it is our Year 7 and 8 pupils who will be participating in the project. The girls accompanied by Miss Roberts and Mrs Kevan attended the launch trip at the University of Liverpool on March 21st. The girls returned to school inspired by their trip to the university and eager to start their programme. They are looking forward to working with Rebecca as they prepare a study based around Illuminating the Body.

We have been so impressed by the hard work and positive attitude of all pupils involved and congratulate our Year 9 and 10 pupils on what they have achieved and look forward to the work that will be produced by our Year 7s and 8s.
