Broughton Hall High School - One Heart, One Mind
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award

Over the last year twenty four girls from the current Year 11 participated in the Broughton Hall Catholic High School Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. They undertook the 4 sections of the award over 3-6 months which included; Skills Develop skills in their chosen field e.g. sport, craft, cookery. Physical – Improve their physical health, e.g. playing tennis, football or cycling. Voluntary – Help the local community through giving up their own time e.g. reading with an after school club, raising money for a charity, raising awareness about recycling or environmental issues and Expedition – Train, plan and carry out a two day practice expedition and a two day qualifying expedition.

The D of E award is very highly regarded with following companies ranking it as the most important extracurricular event they look for on applicants CV's (Alliance & Leicester, Boots, British Energy Group, British Nuclear Fuels, BT, Centrica Civil Service, Coors Brewing company, Corus Group, Diageo Eurotunnel, Honda, Morrison's, Northern Rock, AGN Shipleys, Tesco, 3i Group, Vauxhall Motors).

The girls will be offered the chance to participate in the gold award at 6th form should they wish to carny on with this excellent personal development opportunity. This year girls form year 9 and 10 doing the Bronze award and next year the Silver will be offered to year 10 students and the Bronze embedded in year 9.
