I am the Code Hackathon
On Thursday the 28th and Friday 29th November 10 of our pupils represented Broughton Hall at the ‘I am the Code’ hackathon which was held at the Liverpool Central Library and St George’s Hall.

As part of the hackathon our pupils worked with Marième Jamme who is an award-winning technologist and pioneer in system change. The pupils had to design a technological solution to one of the 17 Global Goals which have been agreed by the UN.

Our girls split into two teams with one group designing a website to support mental health and another designing an app to promote recycling and reduce climate change.

On the first day the pupils worked in the wonderful Central Library to brainstorm ideas and pieced together a Kano computer to use to develop their ideas.  Then on the second day we headed to St George’s Hall where the pupils completed their ideas and presented them. All the pupils showed great courage getting up in front of over 100 people, which included the Lord Mayor of Liverpool and a team of judges, to present their ideas.

One of our teams won second place with their ECODE app and have won the opportunity to work more with Marième to develop their app further.
