Why Choose this course?

If you choose to pursue a BTEC in sport then you are a learner who enjoys hands-on, practical work with plenty of real life situations to get stuck into. You will enjoy learning about Physical Education and Sport in depth, gaining knowledge of anatomy, physiology and fitness. You will develop leadership skills and become aware of the career opportunities within the sports industry.

Prospects

This qualification is an ideal first step to careers within sport. The course supports access to a range of related apprenticeships and higher education courses and combines well with a wide range of other sixth form subjects like Biology, Human Biology, Psychology or Health and Social. Progression routes include sport science, physical education and coaching science, sports coaching and leadership, sports rehabilitation.

Course Opportunities/ Activities

Throughout the 2 year course, Sport students will have the opportunity to connect with professionals in these fields. We will attend University to find out about career opportunities. We work closely with Liverpool Schools Sport Partnership and you will have opportunities to lead and officiate events with them.

You will be encouraged to be a 'Play Leader' to support activities with Year 7 at lunch time. You will work with the PE department to support with any extracurricular opportunities giving you vital experience in addition to the qualification.

Support and Challenge

In Year 12, Sport students will be entered for their first unit exam at the end of the year. This gives us adequate time to prepare you for the requirements needed to achieve well. You will attend three exam lessons per week and will be given topic booklets, past papers and access to wider reading to help prepare you. The other two lessons per week you will learn about Sport Leadership and apply that knowledge with completion of coursework.

All lessons are structured with retrieval starters at the beginning to support long term memory and knowledge recall. Students will have access to additional tutorials and afterschool lessons. Students are expected to spend 5 additional hours of independent study for completion of BTEC Sport work. Your teacher will help direct this time by signposting homework and independent research and reading you are expected to complete.
