Techwuman hosted a SOLIDWORKS STEM activity day with a group of Y9 students on the 18th January. Techwuman is an engineering consultancy company that delivers engineering projects as well as promoting careers in STEM industries to the next generation. The day was delivered by the three company directors and a volunteer.
Students took part in a drawing challenge and were then introduced to SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD software which is widely used in engineering design. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn how to use the software, develop knowledge about design engineering and associated careers. Students were then set a wristwatch design challenge using the software. The winners were 'Team Bella' - well done.
The directors also talked through their own career pathways which included the traditional degree route as well as the apprenticeship route.
Our students had an extremely enjoyable and productive day acquiring new skills and knowledge of the design engineering industry.
"I enjoyed the workshop as I learned how to use the SOLIDWORKS programme which I really enjoyed using. It was interesting seeing how the programme worked and how knowing how to use the programme could benefit me in the future. I hope to do something in this line of work in the future." (WZ)
